Hyderabad: Backward Classes Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has urged the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to write a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla requesting that BJP MP Tejasvi Surya’s remarks on the State division be removed from the records.
In a letter to Naidu, the Minister said comparing state division to India–Pakistan only creates hatred between the two states. “If, as Tejasvi Surya says, it is like India and Pakistan, then who is India and who is Pakistan among these two states? Is there any border dispute between the two states like there is between two countries?” he asked
“Though we are two states, all Telugu people must move forward together in unity, harmony, and mutual cooperation on the path of development. This is today’s urgent need. For this, your complete cooperation is required. I hope you will understand my request with a generous heart and respond appropriately,” he added.
“Please ensure that no Member of Parliament speaks inappropriate, irrelevant, and unjust words about state division,” he said.
The Minister said that according to the aspirations of the people over decades, under the leadership of the then UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, in 2014 the state was constitutionally formed with everyone’s approval on the floor of Parliament.
Every step in this was lawful and constitutional. The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha passed the bill, the President gave approval, and the gazette was issued. Thus, with the approval of all sides, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh were formed, and it has been more than a decade since each state began following its own path.
