Every year before the start of the CIAC tournaments, GametimeCT picks the teams we think will reach the championship matches in girls volleyball.

In the preseason, GametimeCT selected the eight tournament finalists and four CIAC champions. With half the season complete, we updated those predictions.

Now, here is a look at who we think will be playing for championships in two weeks.

The volleyball championships will be held either Friday, Nov. 20, at Bulkeley or Saturday, Nov. 21, at East Haven.

Class LL

2025 champion: Greenwich defeated Glastonbury
2026 preseason championship prediction: Greenwich over Warde
2026 midseason championship prediction: Greenwich over Trumbull

ERICSON’S PICKS

Seeded upsets: No. 25 New Canaan over No. 8 Warde; No. 19 Stamford over No. 14 Cheshire

Final four: Greenwich, Amity, Maloney, Trumbull

Championship: Greenwich over Trumbull

Here’s why: Teams from the FCIAC have won the last six Class LL titles and again have several of the top contenders. Greenwich is unbeaten and has first-team GametimeCT All-State players Kayah Armstrong and Heidi Zieme leading a talented roster. Trumbull’s two losses have both come to Greenwich.

Outside the FCIAC, Maloney is led by Greta Koscuk, NFA is solid out of the ECC, led by Savannah Guernsey, and Amity reached the SCC final paced by Olive Hubbard. Class L runner-up Bristol Central is now in LL and has gotten strong play from junior Emalyn Kirk and senior Gillian Gray. The Rams are certainly a dark horse to make a run here.

Nothing has changed with the Greenwich pick. Greenwich is the best team in Class LL until proven otherwise. While Warde is still obviously a contender, Trumbull has emerged as the No. 2 team in Class LL, led by strong seasons from Adriana Castillo and Lauren Yakowicz.

Class L

2025 champion: East Lyme defeated Bristol Central
2026 preseason championship prediction: East Lyme over Guilford
2026 midseason championship prediction: East Lyme over Masuk

ERICSON’S PICKS

Seeded upsets: No. 18 New Milford over No. 15 Fitch; No. 19 Brookfield over No. 14 WCA

Final four: East Lyme, North Haven, Guilford, Masuk

Championship: East Lyme over Masuk

Here’s why: East Lyme, with six seniors returning, and Naugatuck, with standout Maya Chatfield, are the top two teams in the Class L rankings. But L still runs through East Lyme. Masuk, behind the strong play of Mia Tyler, has emerged from the middle of the pack and looks like a legitimate contender.

While Masuk has shown it can make a run to the title, the division is still East Lyme’s to lose. North Haven, Ledyard and Guilford are all capable of deep runs, but it is the Vikings’ division until it is taken from them.

Class M

2025 champion: RHAM defeated Barlow
2026 preseason championship prediction: Barlow over Sacred Heart Academy
2026 midseason championship prediction: Sacred Heart Academy over Woodland

ERICSON’S PICKS

Seeded upsets: No. 19 Wolcott over No. 14 Griswold

Final four: Woodland, Waterford, RHAM, SHA

Championship: SHA over Woodland

Here’s why: Barlow has played in the last three Class M finals, but is the No. 15 seed and will need to pull some upsets to repeat. NVL champion Woodland, led by Ayla DeCrescenzo, is at the top of the class, along with Granby Memorial and SCC champion SHA, which is led by JJ Kirck and Bella Spinato.

SHA is even better than we expected in the preseason and is the pick here to win Class M. Woodland will have something to say about it. Watch out for Granby Memorial, Waterford and RHAM, led by Rian Calhoun.

Class S

2025 champion: Coventry defeated Canton
2026 preseason championship prediction: Coventry over Hale-Ray
2026 midseason championship prediction: Hale-Ray over Coventry

ERICSON’S PICKS

Seeded upsets: No. 18 Lyman Memorial over No. 15 Montville; No. 24 St. Paul over No. 9 University

Final four: Coventry, Holy Cross, Hale-Ray, East Granby

Championship: Hale-Ray over Coventry

Here’s why: Coventry ran away with the Class S title last season and brings back most of that team to make another run. The Patriots have reached seven Class S finals since 2015 and look primed to make that eight this season in what would be a fourth straight appearance. The Patriots are led by junior Hailey Mayo and seniors Teia Ransford and Tessa Young, and have three losses, including one to Granby. Hale-Ray lost in last year’s semifinals to Canton, but Reagan Bean, Katy Hagerty and Fenway Jankowski have the Noises ready to make history.

Coventry remains the Class S team to beat, but this Hale-Ray team is legit and poised to win the school’s first CIAC title since 1982.
