Raiders vs. 49ers prediction: Brock Purdy to carve up Vegas defense

For years, the Raiders and 49ers were crosstown foes in the Bay Area, and despite the fact that they didn’t play annually, that rivalry went deep for both fanbases.

The two teams haven’t crossed paths since the Raiders left Oakland for the Las Vegas desert, but the Silver and Black return to Northern California for the first time since the Raiders relocated in 2020.

The Raiders (4-4) are playing as well as they have in several years, but still enter this game as massive underdogs on the spread. The 49ers (6-1) are 10-point favorites at home, where they are 4-0 this season.

Raiders vs. 49ers prediction

It seems odd to call this a breakout season for Niners quarterback Brock Purdy, considering he already took San Francisco to a Super Bowl, but he is playing at an MVP level this season.

Purdy leads the NFL in Success Rate (56.4 percent), QBR (79.3), Sack Percentage (3.21), and Adjusted Net Yards per Attempt (8.4). He’s not just carving teams up with his arm; he’s been a good runner when needed, too.

Purdy can scramble out of the pocket when things break down better than most quarterbacks, and his 18 first downs are tied for the second most among quarterbacks behind Josh Allen’s 25.

His eyes should light up when he sees the Raiders defense Sunday afternoon. Vegas has allowed 28 total touchdowns this season, which is the second most of any team in the league. Their 18 passing touchdowns allowed are tied for the most.

Betting on the NFL?

The Niners have injury concerns at receiver with Mike Evans questionable and Deebo Samuel trending toward being out, but injuries have barely slowed this team down. Purdy has been thriving regardless of the personnel, and George Kittle and Christian McCaffrey are still elite threats he can lean.

I’ll back Purdy to have a big day in the passing game.

The Pick: Brock Purdy Over 2.5 passing touchdowns (+144, DraftKings)
