At least one-third of south-east passenger network trains out of action
Before we get into the happenings of today, a bit of catch-up from yesterday’s late-night Transport and Main Roads session.
Running until 9.30pm last night, the hearing fronted by Minister Brent Mickelberg was told Queensland Rail had access to only half the trains needed for the south-east passenger network.
Contributing to the hearing, Queensland Rail chief executive Kat Stapleton said of the 120 three-car sets owned by QR, 44 were unavailable “as a direct result of protected industrial action”.
Six were also at Downer’s Maryborough facility undergoing a 16-year overhaul. In addition, 12 sets were under routine maintenance.
Courts, cops and corrections in focus for estimates Friday
We’ve now crossed the halfway mark of this year’s estimates sitting, with MPs and public sector figures back for day five of nine.
Up first today is Attorney-General Deb Frecklington and her wide-ranging portfolio including the justice system and various integrity bodies.
After the lunch break, Police and Emergency Services Minister Dan Purdie’s portfolios will come up for scrutiny.
Later, Minister for Youth Justice and Victim Support and Minister for Corrective Services Laura Gerber will front the final session until 8pm.
