Diego Pavia is without an NFL team.
The Heisman Trophy finalist was waived by the Ravens on Thursday before training camp opened this summer, forcing the rookie quarterback to be on the hunt for his next opportunity.
Pavia was signed as an undrafted free agent after a strong season at Vanderbilt that saw him chosen as a finalist for college football’s most prestigious award.
After the Ravens signed him, he competed for the No. 3 spot on the QB depth chart during spring practices, with Baltimore now narrowing that down to veteran Skylar Thompson and undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano, the team’s website reported.
The decision to waive Pavia was to make room for veteran center Ethan Pocic, whom the Ravens officially signed. The organization still has a crowded quarterback room, with Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley atop the depth chart.
Pavia helped lead Vanderbilt to a 10-3 season in 2025, which was the first time that the program had double-digit wins. The Commodores averaged 334.8 total yards per game, which was the second most among all FBS players.
The QB also took home a slew of awards during his final college football season, including being named a first-team All-American, SEC Offensive Player of the Year and winning the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.
Questions arose during his pre-draft process about his height, and he faced backlash after he lost the Heisman and took to social media, posting “F- ALL THE VOTERS.”
He later had to apologize for the stunt.
Pavia became the first-ever Heisman finalist not to be drafted earlier this year.
New Ravens head coach Jesse Minter had called Pavia a “force multiplier” when the Ravens signed him earlier in the year.
He also had called the opportunity with Baltimore a “clean slate” for Pavia.
“Any rookie undrafted free agent, come in and work. Let what you do on the field, and by your actions, show who you are. We’ll let him come in with a little bit of a clean slate… and give him a platform to see what he can do,” Minter said.
