Karimnagar: Rainfall continued on the second day in the Karimnagar region. While rivulets and streams were over-flowing, irrigation projects were getting inflows.
Road connectivity between villages and towns has been disrupted as floodwater was overflowing from low-level causeways and roadside dams in different places. Floodwaters submerged agricultural fields. Trees and electric poles were uprooted at many places due to the heavy winds and continuous showers.
In an incident, motorist Arukuti Raju was injured in his head when a big tree fell on his MiniVan in Peddabazar area of Sircilla town. Raju was moving towards the collectorate side from his native Yellareddypet mandal.
Three motorists travelling on two bikes got stuck in the water hyacinth that got onto the roads along with flood waters at Kollurvagu in Korutla mandal. They were moving to Raikal from Kollur. Locals rescued the motorists.
In another mishap, night watchman of Mallapur model school, Satyanarayana, got stuck in floodwaters as a local rivulet was overflowing. Sarpanch Chityala Laxman and others rescued him.
Seven houses collapsed in Narayanpur of Gangadhara mandal. Road connectivity between Mangapet and Kunaram of Kalvasrirampur mandal was snapped as floodwaters reached the low-level bridge.
To avert incidents, Jagtial district officials dismantled old and dilapidated structures that were posing a threat to life in Jagtial town. The district declared a holiday for schools on Thursday.
Besides establishing control rooms at the collectorate to help the affected people, advisories have been issued to the people by the district administrations.
People were asked to remain at their homes and avoid contact with rivulets, canals, reservoirs and tanks.
