
Belagavi: CCB officials have arrested a Rajasthan native and seized more than one kilogram of liquid opium valued at Rs 5 lakh during a raid, police said on Friday.
Shubham Madanlal Sharma (29) of Pali district in Rajasthan, was caught by the CCB team led by Inspector Manjunath Nayak on Thursday. Police said that Sharma had brought opium from Pali and was attempting to sell it to Khetaram Choudhary of Bengaluru near the service road of National Highway-48 close to the Hindalco factory when they conducted the raid.
The CCB team seized 1.048 kg of black-colour liquid opium worth about Rs 5 lakh and an iPhone 14 Plus mobile phone valued at Rs 50,000. The total value of the seized property has been estimated at Rs 5.5 lakh.
A case has been registered against Sharma and another accused, identified as Khetaram Choudhary of Bengaluru, at Malmaruti police station under provisions of the NDPS Act.
