Rajkummar Rao Says You Can Never Know The Pressure Amid Backlash Over Pro-Modi Song

Rajkummar Rao recently voiced his support for the ongoing CJP-led student protests in Delhi. However, his statement sparked criticism from a section of social media users, who pointed out that he had appeared in the 2025 pro-government music video Modi Hai Toh Mumkin Hai, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popular slogan. The track also featured actors including Varun Dhawan, Vikrant Massey and Arshad Warsi.

Rao responded to one such comment on Instagram but later deleted it.
In his reply, the actor said he could never “sell” his soul, and that one song does not define his beliefs or ideology. He also stated that one can never know the “pressure”.


His comment read, “I can never sell my soul, brother. And one song does not define who I am, what I stand for, or what my ideologies in life are. You can never know the pressure. I stand for what is right and what keeps us united as human beings. As long as my conscience is clean and I work the hardest nothing else matters. People who know me personally know who I am and hopefully, one day, I’ll be able to earn back your respect. I wish you luck and happiness in life. God bless you.”

The screenshot of the now-deleted comment soon went viral, with many interpreting Rao’s reference to “pressure” as an explanation for his participation in the song. However, the actor did not clarify what he meant by the term.
The controversy comes days after Rao expressed solidarity with students protesting over the alleged NEET paper leak and examination irregularities.
The student movement, led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), gathered nationwide attention after the July 20 Sansad Chalo march in Delhi, during which protesters alleged they were lathi-charged and tear gas was used to disperse the crowd. The incident prompted widespread reactions from public figures and celebrities.
Apart from Rajkummar Rao, several members of the film industry have voiced support for the students, including Naseeruddin Shah, Salman Khan, Shabana Azmi, Diljit Dosanjh, Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane, Vedang Raina, Imran Khan, Arijit Singh, Huma Qureshi, Aditi Rao Hydari, Alia Bhatt, and Prakash Raj, among others.
