Former Inter Miami captain De Andre Yedlin expects his old side to find the altitude difficult when the MLS Cup holders visit Real Salt Lake in their second match under interim manager Guillermo Hoyos.
The America First Field in Utah is 4,500 feet above sea level, helping Pablo Mastroneni’s side win their first four home matches in the 2026 MLS.
“I’ve had experience playing here as the away team and that first five to 10 minutes is just horrible, trying to catch your breath,” said Yedlin (via the Miami Herald), a former USA right-back who joined RSL in 2025, having won the 2023 Leagues Cup and the 2024 Supporters’ Shield with the Herons alongside the likes of current Miami skipper Lionel Messi.
“We want to make teams adjust to us, not us to them. If we do that, there are not a lot of teams out there that can stop us.
“When [Miami] won the Leagues Cup, [Messi] gave the captain’s armband back to me, which was a great moment for him to show his humility.
“So we lifted the trophy together. It was a great moment. But now we’re in the future and it’s business time on Wednesday.”
One of Miami’s highest-profile newcomers, German Berterame, has pledged he is “just getting started” and paid tribute to his late grandmother after scoring for a second consecutive match in the 3-2 win at Colorado on Saturday.
Striker Berterame headed in Mateo Silvetti’s cross on the stroke of half-time, doubling an advantage given to Miami by Messi before Colorado equalised within the first 18 minutes of the second half.
Messi scored the winner as Hoyos made a winning start following Javier Mascherano’s departure, putting them second in the Eastern Conference and four points behind leaders Nashville.
“There is still a long way to go, so we have to stay on the same path and keep maintaining all this work,” said $15 million (around £11.4m) signing Berterame, who now has three direct goal involvements in three matches after failing to score in his first seven appearances for the club.

“The goal and the win were for [my grandmother]. All week, I hoped I could score and dedicate it to her – and, even more than that, to dedicate the win, because she loved football and always followed us closely.
“After I got here, we would always tell her that we’re [working with] the best player in the world [Messi].”
