Tennis fans trolled Alexander Zverev after the German failed to pull off a ball-catching trick previously performed by Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.

Zverev received a first-round bye at the Paris Masters and faced Lorenzo Musetti in the second round on Wednesday. During his 7-6(5), 6-2 loss, the two-time Grand Slam champion tried to catch a ball thrown from the stands in his pocket. However, the ball popped out.

Alexander Zverev expresses frustration over questioning about his top ranking

Alexander Zverev recently expressed frustration after being asked about his World No. 1 status multiple times. The German was given the World No. 1 trophy in Paris.

He rose to the top of the rankings after winning his first two Grand Slam titles this year. However, detractors have pointed to his record against Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, who have battled injuries this season, to downplay Zverev’s achievement. The German has lost his last 10 meetings with Sinner and four of his last five matches against Alcaraz.

“I don’t think anybody had to explain themselves as much as I had to do in the last couple of days, which for me, is annoying, to be honest,” Zverev said, as per BBC. “I was a bit annoyed, to be honest, because achieving the world number one status is something that every player dreams of. But then I feel like I’m the only world number one in tennis history that has to explain why it’s OK for me to be world number one, which I find quite difficult, because I think I deserve to be where I am, even though I lost today.”

Alexander Zverev will now shift his focus to the ATP Finals, which will be held in Turin.
