Hollywood star Rebel Wilson has been accused of orchestrating a cyber-attack on the social media account of a rising star which led to her nude photo being leaked.
The Pitch Perfect star is being sued by Charlotte MacInnes, the Australian lead actor of her recently released directorial debut, musical comedy The Deb.
MacInnes claims she was defamed by Wilson in four social media posts which claimed the young actor made a sexual harassment complaint and then retracted it to further her career.
In an affidavit filed in the federal court, the young star blamed Wilson for arranging for her social media account to be hacked and a nude photo leaked.
MacInnes claimed her Snapchat account was breached and there was an attempt to hack her Facebook account days after she filed legal proceedings against Wilson in September 2025.
“I believe that this was orchestrated by Rebel,” she wrote in her statement.
“It was completely terrifying and caused me a new kind of anxiety.”
There has been no evidence tendered to support her claim and Wilson has not yet been questioned about the hack.
It came after Wilson spread “malicious lies” in social media posts which left MacInnes crying every day for weeks, the young actor said in an affidavit.
“I felt as though she was ripping me apart and showing it off to the world,” MacInnes said.
She had looked up to Wilson but was left feeling powerless after the Hollywood star shared posts with her 11 million followers accusing MacInnes of dishonestly retracting a sexual harassment complaint.
The Bridesmaid actor bullied and intimidated her while falsely painting herself as a whistleblower who spoke up to protect her, MacInnes said.
“I was angry that Rebel claims to be someone who stands up for women … but then was so maliciously and unfairly persisting with a narrative that painted me as a liar, prostitute, sell out, and whore,” she wrote in a sworn statement.
It had been heartbreaking to see so many people believing Wilson and to be the subject of abuse and hatred online as a result, MacInnes wrote.
She revealed she made the devastating decision not to attend the premiere of The Deb – her first feature film – because she didn’t feel safe around Wilson.
“I continue to feel unsafe in the industry I had once dreamed of, as Rebel is so well known and I do not yet feel I have enough of a voice to fight back,” the actor attested.
Her lawsuit centres on the aftermath of a medical episode suffered by the film’s co-producer Amanda Ghost at Bondi Beach in September 2023.
MacInnes helped her back to an apartment they were sharing with others and the pair ended up sharing a bath in their swimwear in a bid to warm up, she says.
Wilson claimed her film’s star had confided that she had felt uncomfortable after Ghost requested they shower and bathe together, but MacInnes has denied making a complaint.
Ghost told the federal court on Friday she was shocked when the A-lister said MacInnes reported feeling uncomfortable and asked her to clarify whether a complaint was being made.
“Charlotte says all good,” Wilson informed her after speaking to MacInnes.
“She just meant ‘it was a bizarre situation’ not that she personally felt uncomfortable.”
When Ghost expressed her relief, the first-time director explained that MacInnes instantly said there were “zero issues”.
But the producer agreed she had doubts about MacInnes’ honesty after discussing the complaint further with Wilson.
“I was annoyed after Rebel presented a case about her to me,” she said.
Ghost was so concerned she decided to avoid MacInnes, instigate a third-party investigation into the complaint and evict the young actor from the apartment.
She came to believe the young actor was telling the truth after meeting with her in person, she told the court.
Wilson will take the stand when court resumes on Tuesday.
