Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday accused Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy of creating hurdles in the release of funds for Hyderabad Metro Phase-2 works. Addressing a press conference at the Telangana Secretariat, he said Kishan Reddy, being the only Cabinet Minister from the state, holds the responsibility to ensure necessary funds for metro expansion, while Bandi Sanjay Kumar serves as Minister of State.
Alleging political interference, the Chief Minister said Kishan Reddy was acting at the behest of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) and K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), and blamed them for the current situation. He added that he is ready to give a detailed power-point presentation at the Secretariat to Kishan Reddy and BJP MPs to clarify any doubts regarding the metro project.
Revanth Reddy also blamed the previous BRS government for delays in the Metro Phase-2 project, stating that L&T had refused to take up the works, leading to further setbacks. He said the state government subsequently decided to take over the project to ensure its continuation.
The Chief Minister said the government purchased L&T’s metro assets worth ₹30,000 crore for ₹15,000 crore, adding that the cost of construction stands at about ₹350 crore per kilometre. He announced plans to raise low-interest loans to support the metro expansion.
He further stated that loans amounting to ₹1.52 lakh crore were extended to the previous government led by KCR. The state, he added, is also mounting pressure on the Centre to secure approvals for the second phase of the metro expansion.
