Singer Robbie Williams is said to be in line to be honoured by King Charles in the New Year for his continued charity work with UNICEF after founding Soccer Aid two decades ago

Robbie Williams is reportedly being lined up for an honour from the King. The musician, 52, has reportedly been given the green light to be honoured by His Majesty as part of his New Year’s Honours, for his continued work with UNICEF and founding Soccer Aid in 2006.

The Stoke-on-Trent-born hitmakers’ tax had been “green-flagged” following an investigation. It’s reported that he could be knighted by the King.

Robbie had previously been linked to investments as part of a huge £700 million tax-relief scheme, which HMRC deemed a tax-avoidance scheme. Robbie was one of thousands of people linked to the firm Ingenious Media.

Speaking to The Sun, a source said: “Robbie’s name has been put forward and if he gets anything it’s likely to be a knighthood or possibly an OBE. He has raised hundreds of millions for charity, and this year was the 20th year of Soccer Aid, which was his idea. So his name has been put on the list by the charity and philanthropy committee after it was green-flagged.

“There are more hoops to get through, and it needs to go forward to the main honours committee and then the PM and ultimately the King.” The source said that high-profile individuals are “checked and vetted” by the committee.

“And one of those checks is their tax affairs, so it is a good sign for him that HMRC have given him the thumbs-up,” the source added. According to reports, Robbie had previously been barred from receiving an OBE due to his links to the tax scheme.

Robbie, who splits his time between the UK and his home in California, pays taxes in the United Kingdom. He and friend Jonathan Wilkes founded Soccer Aid two decades ago and have since raised over £137 million, with the money being donated to UNICEF.

Last year alone, the event, held at London Stadium, raised £16.5million. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the event, Robbie took to the pitch during the halftime show to perform his hit single, Feel.

Over £1 million of the total amount was raised by Olly Murs. The singer had taken on a mammoth challenge that involved cycling, rowing and running the 400km distance from Old Trafford to the London Stadium. Prior to the match beginning, Tom Hiddlestone revealed on air that Olly had raised £1,342,214 for the total pot.

The rest of the funds were raised throughout the event, including the buildup leading up to the kickoff. Tom Hanks and Tim Allen came out to the pitch to deliver the football and revealed that, before play had even begun, the event had already raised over £ 4.6 million. Tim delighted fans by saying his Toy Story character Buzz Lightyear’s catchphrase: “To infinity and beyond!”
