What caused Sanjay Gupta’s sudden death?
The news of Sanjay Gupta’s death broke out on the morning of October 31, 2026. The actor had reportedly suffered a fatal fall at his residence late on Friday, October 30, 2026. Now, the Versova officials have revealed what happened in the actor’s final moments. According to reports, the Versova police station has registered Sanjay’s death as an accidental death report (ADR).
A police official at the Versova police station told the media that the ADR was registered in connection with the incident and that they are probing to determine the exact sequence of events. The police were informed in the morning of October 31, 2026, about the death of Sanjay Gupta. The officer said there are CCTV cameras in the house, and they pieced together the events based on the footage. He said:
“We visited the house; there are CCTV cameras in the house and separate bedrooms for each one of them. He stayed in a building at J P Road in Versova.”
According to the reports, the CCTV footage showed Sanjay Gupta sitting in the drawing room of his Versova residence at around 2:00 AM. However, when he got up to go to the kitchen, he lost his balance and fell against the wall. His head hit the corner of the wall between the kitchen and the drawing room. The Versova police officer was quoted as saying:
“His head hit the corner of the wall between the kitchen and the drawing room. He fell down; a dog was also seen nearby him.”
Where were Sanjay Gupta’s wife, Anuradha Lekhi and children at the time of the incident?
The Versova police officer said that when Sanjay Gupta fell, his wife and children were in their respective bedrooms and didn’t learn what happened until morning. When they woke up on the morning of October 31, 2026, they found him lying in a pool of his blood. Sanjay’s family immediately rushed him to the hospital. However, unfortunately, he was declared dead. He was quoted as saying:
“However, as his wife, son and daughter were asleep in their bedrooms, they didn’t come to know about it.”
According to the reports, Sanjay Gupta’s body was taken to a Government hospital for a post-mortem. The family has spoken to the police, and they have no suspicion against anyone. “Also, it is clearly seen on the cameras that he lost his balance and fell,” said the police officer. A forensic team has also reached the spot, police informed.
Sanjay Gupta’s death triggered a wave of tributes from his friends, colleagues and fans. For those unfamiliar with his work, he was known for crime thrillers like Kaante, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and Suniel Shetty, and Zinda, in which John Abraham teamed up with Sanjay Dutt. Sanjay Gupta also produced successful films such as Shootout at Lokhandwala and the 2017 hit Kaabil. He is survived by his wife, Anuradha Lekhi and two children, Shivansh and Dalai Gupta.
