Schools in the Gudalur and Pandalur taluks of the Nilgiris district were closed on Tuesday following heavy rainfall in the region.
Nilgiris District Collector announced a one-day holiday for schools in the two taluks due to the adverse weather conditions and to ensure the safety of students.
According to weather agencies’ reports, a trough extending from south Gujarat to north Kerala at mean sea level is expected to bring light to moderate rainfall at isolated places over the Western Ghats districts until July 12. Light rain is also likely at isolated places across the rest of Tamil Nadu and in Puducherry and Karaikal.
Heavy rain has continued in parts of the Nilgiris since Monday, with Gudalur and Pandalur among the worst-affected areas, prompting the district administration to declare a holiday for schools in the two taluks for Tuesday.
