Sean Hannity's Ex-Wife Jill Rhodes Was Warned Against Marrying Him, Their Divorce Reason Explored

Fox News host Sean Hannity officially tied the knot with fellow journalist Ainsley Earhardt on October 24, 2026. They got married in the same church in Palm Beach, Florida, where they got engaged about two years ago. The wedding with Ainsley wasn’t Sean’s first go at spousal life.

Sean once trod the path before with ex-wife, Jill Rhodes as well. Notably, everyone around her, including her pastor, warned her against marrying him; regardless, she went ahead with the wedding. What began as a whirlwind romance lasted for two decades. Here’s exploring the reason behind the former couple’s split.

Jill Rhodes’ colleagues and pastor warned her against marrying Sean Hannity, why did they split?

Sean Hannity and Jill Rhodes first crossed paths in 1992 during a mayoral debate. At that time, he was reading a local Huntsville newspaper when he spotted her photo next to one of her political columns. However, it wasn’t her column that caught Sean’s attention at first; it was her appearance. He revealed the same during a 2011 chat with Newsmax. As per The List, the Fox News host “accidentally” made the revelation and confessed:

“She was really talented…gifted, but I really just fell in love with the little picture in her column.”

It was somewhat of a love at first sight for Jill Rhodes as well, as the political journalist told PEOPLE in 2002 that she knew she would walk down the aisle with Sean Hannity someday, the moment she saw him. Within a year of meeting in Huntsville, Alabama, the duo got married in 1993. Notably, people around Jill didn’t want her to marry Sean. Her colleagues, and even their pastor, didn’t want her to get hitched to him. The iffy pastor stated:

“[The pastor] said, ‘You’re crazy to be marrying this guy,’ because I started arguing about how the church has become too liberal. And I think she left that meeting in tears.”

Jill’s colleagues reportedly were displeased with Sean Hannity’s occasional controversial statements during his Fox News appearances. However, as nothing lasts forever, neither did Jill and Sean’s marriage. Sean Hannity and his ex-wife, Jill Rhodes announced in June 2020 that she divorced him after more than two decades of marriage. Notably, they quietly separated many years before their public announcement.

During Jill and Sean’s twenty-year spousal life, they became parents to two children, Patrick and Merri Kelly. As for the reason for their split, the couple kept mum. However, reports at that time claimed the split was amicable and there was no infidelity involved. They cited Sean Hannity’s demanding broadcast and writing schedule as the primary reason. They reportedly maintain a friendly bond and co-parent their kids well.

About Sean Hannity’s second marriage to Ainsley Earhardt

Sean Hannity and his ladylove Ainsley Earhardt exchanged vows at the historic Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea in Palm Beach, Florida. The venue was especially meaningful to them, as it is the same church where he originally proposed to her in Christmas 2024. Before the official ceremony, the couple hosted a pre-wedding celebration and rehearsal dinner on October 23 at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach.

The pre-wedding dinner was attended by Donald Trump and Melania Trump, alongwith prominent political and media figures including Marco Rubio, Robert F Kennedy Jr, and Senator Tim Scott. Sean and Ainsley Earhardt first sparked romance rumors in 2020. Before they connected, both Fox News journalists finalized divorces from their respective spouses.

The couple made one of their first notable joint public appearances in August 2019, when they arrived together as guests for the wedding of fellow Fox News host and politician Pete Hegseth. Sean and Ainsley are speculated to have quietly dated since then, and in June 2020, outlets like Vanity Fair and PEOPLE formally reported that the two were a real couple. They have since earned the nickname- “first couple of Fox News.”
