Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) chairman and managing director Dr Buddhaprakash Jyoti has sought the support of Angul district collector Mohammad Abdaal Akhtar for setting up a pithead thermal power plant near the Naini coal mine in Odisha. The company has identified land in Tukuda and Jarapada as suitable for the proposed plant.

During a meeting at Angul on Tuesday, Dr Jyoti also sought allotment of land for a rehabilitation and resettlement (R&R) colony for 40 families displaced by the Naini coal mine. He requested an early meeting of the rehabilitation and periphery advisory committee (RPDAC) to decide on implementation of the R&R package, acquisition of land for the colony and other rehabilitation matters.

The CMD sought support for completion of the proposed Chandipara-Jarapada bypass road, for which SCCL has deposited ₹35 crore. The road is expected to connect coal from the Naini block to Jarapada railway junction and may serve as a corridor for other coal-producing industries. He also sought land for a Singareni office and staff colony in Odisha and assistance for constructing the Majhika bypass road to ensure smooth coal transportation without inconvenience to local residents. Singareni has assured funding for land acquisition for the road.

The Angul collector assured Dr Jyoti of cooperation, stating that the district would support SCCL’s efforts to meet the country’s power requirements. SCCL directors Gowtam Potru and L.V. Suryanarayana, executive director (coal movement) B. Venkanna and general manager (coordination) T. Srinivas attended the meeting.
