Slobodan Soro has been elected as the new president of the Water Polo Federation of Serbia for a four-year term.

The Electoral Assembly of the WPF of Serbia took place today in Belgrade, where Soro was the only candidate for the position, nominated by the majority of the clubs that are in the membership of the Water Polo Federation of Belgrade.

Soro replaces Viktor Jelenic, who served as president for eight years (2018-2026) and chose not to seek another mandate.

As a goalkeeper of the Serbian national team, Soro won two bronze medals at the Olympic Games and many other medals. His most significant achievements at the club level include winning two titles in the Champions League, once with Becej in 2000 and again with Partizan in 2011. Throughout his career, Soro played for clubs in Serbia, Russia, Spain, Brazil, and Italy.

Slobodan Soro retired as a player five years ago at the age of 43. Since retiring, he has been involved in the management of Novi Beograd as a director and president.

Additionally, Marko Avramovic was elected as the new president of the WPF Assembly today. Like Soro, Avramovic is a former successful player of the Serbian national team, having played for Partizan, Crvena Zvezda, and clubs in Hungary and Spain. He won the World Championships in 2009, among other medals, including a Champions League title. Avramovic, who has also served as the general secretary of the Association of Serbian Water Polo Coaches in recent years, was the sole candidate for this position at the Assembly as well.

Delegates from 36 of the 38 clubs attended the Assembly. Soro and Avramovic were elected unanimously with the abstention of Crvena zvezda.
