The Duchess of Edinburgh showed off a dramatically shorter hairstyle today while out on royal duties.

Sophie, 61, who is known for her long blonde hair showed off a brand new bob after having appeared to have had several inches taken off the length. The mum-of-two debuted the style as she attended the Groundswell Regenerative Agriculture Festival in Hitchin today, where she chatted to farmers.

She wore an on-trend denim midiskirt as well as a blue Penelope Chivers blouse and a pair of tan boots, as well as a red friendship-style bracelet. Sophie seemingly decided to go for a bob in recent days, as last week, when she was on a two-day visit to Jersey, her blonde hair fell around her shoulders.

She was also spotted at the Sandringham Horse Driving Trials on the King’s Norfolk estate on Sunday, where she took part in one of the competitions. But there her hair was covered by her straw hat.

It came as disgraced Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was spotted on a rare outing away from his home at Sandringham to also attend the horse trials.

He was seen driving his Land Rover Defender away from the event, where his brother Prince Edward had been cheering on his wife Sophie.

It is said the ex-prince, whose previous mystery bruise on his face has cleared up, watched as Sophie took part in the SanDrivingHam Challenge, which aims to showcase the skill of the driver, groom, and passengers. He is believed to have watched the action in a secluded area away from the main arena.

An onlooker told the Sun: “Andrew sneaked in and sneaked out and definitely didn’t want to be seen. “But I saw Andrew leave the field at 10.30am, just after Sophie had ridden her round, then I saw Edward walking towards his car, smiling shortly afterwards.”

Sophie and husband Edward, who attended the Order of the Thistle service in Edinburgh today with the King and Prince William, are often regarded as some of the Royal Family’s safest pairs of hands, quietly keeping up with duty and being an invaluable support for Charles.

The pair have enjoyed a bigger public profile in recent years, especially since the likes of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from royal duties, allowing the Edinburgh’s to take more of the spotlight.

Away from their royal roles, Edward and Sophie appear to prefer life away from publicity, living under the radar, away from the cameras at their Bagshot Park estate in Surrey.

Royal expert Jennie Bond told the Mirror that behind closed doors, the couple are exactly the same as their public personas – living relatively simple lives by royal standards with little fuss and doing everyday activities.

The former BBC royal correspondent said: “Edward and Sophie are a really genuine couple, what you see is pretty much what you get.

“They do their jobs with as little fuss and flummery as possible – Edward was seen just the other day walking to the Palace rather than being in a posh car, and Sophie will sometimes drive herself to an engagement and is more than happy to manage her hair, make-up and clothes herself.

“Well, of course they should, I hear you say! And yes, that’s what the rest of us have to do every day, but it hasn’t always been the ‘royal’ way.
