Sophie Morgan returns to screens for the new Celebrity Hunted series

Sophie Morgan captured the hearts of viewers since shooting to fame – but away from the TV sets what do we know about her life?

The presenter and advocate has become a familiar face on TV in recent years. As well as stints on Loose Women and the London Paralympics, Sophie is also a part of the Celebrity Hunted line-up – which airs this week.

Years before her fame though, and at the age of 18 in 2003, Sophie was involved in a car crash. The accident left her with a spinal cord injury that paralysed her from the waist down.

Since then, Sophie has helped radically change the representation of disability on television. But what do we know about the talented star’s love life?

Sophie Morgan’s engagement

After her accident, Sophie met former partner Tom, an acupuncturist, when visiting her friend at university. She told Spinal Cord Injury Zone in 2013: “Tom and I hit it off and enjoyed a good flirt but nothing happened.”

Soon enough though, the pair struck up a romance in 2007. She added to the publication: “The rest is history. We started dating six years ago and last month we got engaged.”

Speaking to The Telegraph in 2012, she described Tom as “my biggest support; he’s training to be an acupuncturist and is passionate about herbal tea”. However, the two have since sadly split.

Sophie Morgan on ‘awful’ online dating experiences

Fast forward to 2023 and Sophie revealed she was single. It is not known when exactly she split from Tom. She told OK: “I came out of a relationship last year and I’m loving life as a single woman and being free.”

Sophie also told the publication that she had tried online dating, but wasn’t really a fan. She shared: “I’ve had some success – some have been awful.

“Those who do have a good time with it, I don’t know what their secret is because it’s just difficult. It’s difficult for anyone and then layer in the fact that I’m a wheelchair user – it throws up more complications because, at the end of the day, you are being judged on how you look and as a person with a disability, that’s not what you want.”

What has Sophie said about joining Celebrity Hunted?

Sophie is teamed with Strictly Come Dancing star JJ Chalmers, who is a former Royal Marine and Invictus Games medallist, on the series.

Writing for The Telegraph, Sophie said of joining the series: “Living as a fugitive, I discovered my disability was not a handicap – it’s what gave me my edge.”
