Earlier this year, as part of its global promotion, SS Rajamouli’s directorial Varanasi created history by showcasing its promotional content at Europe’s largest cinema, Le Grand Rex in Paris, France. A nearly four-minute footage from Varanasi was screened, generating high anticipation among the French audience. In the latest development, Rajamouli is set to travel to France for the first time to further boost the film’s reach and visibility.

‘Director who reinvented blockbuster cinema’

Carlotta Films, a distributor of heritage films in theatres, has confirmed Rajamouli’s arrival in the country in a spectacular fashion. Its official X handle read: “Colossal! The mega star of filmmakers, @ssrajamouli, arrives for the first time in France at the end of June for a series of events in his presence! If you know, love EEGA, THE VENGEFUL FLY, THE LEGEND OF BAAHUBALI, RRR, you know what that means.” For the uninitiated, it described Rajamouli as a director who reinvented blockbuster cinema, likening him to James Cameron and Steven Spielberg. This introduction has generated significant curiosity. The director is expected to participate in a series of promotional events during his visit in June.

Rajamouli’s global promotion strategy

Rajamouli and his team are undertaking an aggressive global promotion strategy. According to reports, the makers are spending around Rs 150–200 crore to target international markets. A special screening of the film’s BTS footage in Mexico is a step in that direction. Plans to organise events in France and Brazil to build anticipation for its April 7, 2027 release have further strengthened this strategy.

A source close to the film unit revealed, “Apart from conventional diaspora markets, Rajamouli wants to focus on South and Latin American audiences, bolstered by marketing at events like Comic-Con in Mexico. Hence, Varanasi is releasing in more than 100 countries with subtitles.” The makers have also collaborated with an advertising and product placement agency to manage international brand integration.
