VISAKHAPATNAM: Union civil aviation minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu said the Telugu Desam-led government had been committed to the welfare of fishermen since the tenure of N.T. Rama Rao and would continue working for the development of coastal fishing villages in line with the ideals of his father, Kinjarapu Yerrannaidu.
Participating in several development programmes in Vajrapukotturu and Mandasa mandals of the Palasa Assembly constituency on Thursday, Ram Mohan Naidu said the coalition government had accorded priority to the welfare and income enhancement of fishermen.
At Devunalthada village in Vajrapukotturu mandal, he inaugurated a fish auction hall and fish processing centre constructed at a cost of `1.32 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana.
He said GPS devices, life jackets, ice boxes and solar lights would be made available to fishermen on a larger scale. He said work on Mulapeta Port was progressing rapidly and steps were being taken to create local employment opportunities.
At Pedda Muraharipuram, Ram Mohan Naidu unveiled an NTR statue along with Palasa MLA Gouthu Sireesha and former minister Gouthu Syam Sundar Sivaji.
In Haripuram of Mandasa mandal, he laid foundation stones for central divider and central lighting works at Ratti Junction, taken up at a cost of `74 lakh with SUDA funds. He also laid the foundation for a mini stadium being constructed at a cost of `2.50 crore with Airports Authority of India (AAI) CSR funds.
Ram Mohan Naidu said investments and industries were coming to Andhra Pradesh under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, creating local employment opportunities and reducing the need for people to migrate in search of jobs.
