New Delhi: The Supreme Court has once again clarified the rule regarding local reservation in Telangana. The apex court ruled that the four-year rule is mandatory for claiming Telangana local reservation and stated that local reservations must be implemented only as per the Presidential Orders.
Reiterating the judgment earlier given by the bench headed by Justice B.R. Gavai, the Supreme Court today dismissed a petition filed by one Ankita challenging the government’s decision to make four years of education mandatory for local reservation in Telangana.
Rejecting the argument that the rule is unilateral, the bench headed by Justice P.S. Narasimha made it clear that local reservation will be applicable only to those students who have studied in Telangana for four consecutive years before the MBBS eligibility examination. The Supreme Court bench once again upheld the GO previously issued by the Telangana government in this regard.
In September last year, the SC upheld the Telangana government’s domicile rule requiring students to have studied in the State for the four years preceding Class 12 to qualify for admission to medical and dental colleges under the State quota.
