Taapsee Pannu has often chosen roles that depart from conventional mainstream narratives. She recently spoke about her interest in expanding her range further by playing an Indian version of Wonder Woman in a large-scale superhero film.
About this long-term goal, Taapsee said, “I have always dreamed of being part of a big-scale Indian film like Avengers, where I could play an Indian version of Wonder Woman. An Indian-style superhero is a character I have always wanted to portray.”

While she expressed enthusiasm for the idea, she also mentioned the huge differences between the production capabilities of international superhero films and those currently available in India. She added, “I hope someone makes a film like that someday. But the kind of technology and budgets they (Hollywood) have for those films are beyond anything we can even imagine.”
Taapsee’s film choices have frequently involved varied genres. Her work includes roles in the courtroom drama Pink, the mystery thriller Badla, the romantic drama Manmarziyaan, the romantic thriller Haseen Dillruba, the sports drama Rashmi Rocket, and the sci-fi thriller Blur.
Her career trajectory reflects a consistent effort to balance commercial work with different types of storytelling. Although the superhero genre has seen limited development in India, Taapsee believes the potential for such homegrown stories exists if the right scale and technology are applied to the projects.
For her upcoming work, Taapsee is set to appear in Gandhari, which will be released on Netflix. She was last seen in Assi, another courtroom drama which was directed by Anubhav Sinha. It released earlier this year in January and also starred Kani Kusruti, Revathy, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra and Moahmmed Zeeshan Ayyub in key roles.
