Nellore: Telugu Desam (TD) on Thursday wrested the post of Kota mandal praja parishad (MPP) president in SPSR Nellore district.

TD’s Ambeti Sasi became the new MPP president with four YSRC mandal parishad territorial council members crossing over and supporting the TD leader. Kota mandal has 16 MPTC members. Of them, two had passed away, leaving 14 members eligible to vote.

Ambeti Sasi secured the support of 11 members, while the YSRC candidate received the backing from only three members. The election initially generated considerable interest as both the TD and YSRC had claimed the support of seven MPTCs each.

However, political equations changed dramatically after four YSRC MPTCs switched allegiance to the TD camp. Sources attribute TD’s victory to the efforts of Gudur MLA Pasam Sunil Kumar, who reportedly played a key role in persuading the YSRC members to support the ruling party’s candidate. With their crossover, the TD comfortably secured the MPP chair, strengthening its position in the mandal.

SPSR Nellore joint collector Mogili Venkateswarlu served as the election officer and supervised the polling process. The result is being seen as a significant political gain for the TD in Kota mandal.
