HYDERABAD: The Congress government on Friday affirmed its commitment to strengthen and transform Singareni Collieries into a globally competitive enterprise, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Friday said Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) must prepare for a sweeping energy transition over the next 15–20 years. He said the dependence on coal and thermal power would decline with the rapid growth of solar, pumped storage, wind, hydrogen, rare‑earth minerals and battery energy storage.
Bhatti proposed SCCL’s strategic entry into critical minerals like lithium and cobalt for batteries, semiconductors and EVs, and suggested participation in international auctions in countries such as Australia and South Africa.
He called for a corporate‑style 10‑year roadmap, regular board deliberations on expansion and open consultations with workers and unions to make employees active stakeholders. Bhatti said SCCL’s profitability was vital for the livelihoods of thousands of mining families.
Bhatti urged the SCCL management to focus on excellence to face growing competition from private miners after the Centre had started coal‑block auctions. He directed the SCCL to maintain strict quality controls, preventing contamination of coal with mud and stones, running washeries efficiently and scientifically blending grades to supply consistent high‑grade coal.
Criticising the previous BRS administration, the Deputy Chief Minister said lack of long‑term strategy had led to missed opportunities for the SCCL in coal block auctions and inadequate planning for thermal projects such as Bhadradri and Yadadri.
Later, Bhatti visited Bhadradri Thermal Power Plant and enquired about the usage of coal, being used for generation of power. He enquired with the officials on power generation in the 4X270 MW power plant.
