Hyderabad: The state government on Thursday launched the “Intinta Indiramma Kuttu Machinlu” (Indiramma sewing machines in every household) scheme aimed at economically empowering women from the Backward Classes (BCs) community by providing them with means to take up tailoring as a source of self-employment. BC welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar launched the scheme and said 1.19 lakh automatic sewing machines would be distributed across all 119 Assembly constituencies in the first phase. Each constituency has been allotted 1,000 machines.
Applications will be accepted from August 15 to September 15. Each machine, valued at Rs 12,000, will be provided under 100 per cent subsidy, imposing no financial burden on the beneficiaries.
The scheme is primarily intended for unemployed BC women interested in tailoring. Priority will be given, as per the guidelines, to the poorest women, widows, single women, homeless and orphaned women, persons with disabilities and those with prior experience in tailoring. The minister said the selection process would be transparent and strictly based on government guidelines. Beneficiaries would also be required to undergo training in the operation of the machines.
Prabhakar also appealed to BC community representatives and community organisations to participate in large numbers in the unveiling of the statues of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on August 14 near HMDA grounds, Necklace Road, and the statue of Sardar Sarvai Papanna Goud on Tank Bund on August 18 on the occasion of his birth anniversary.
