
Panaji: Police have arrested a 33-year-old man and rescued a woman during an anti-human trafficking operation conducted in North Goa district, officials said on Thursday. The accused, identified as Punna Hari Prasad, a native of Telangana currently residing at Arpora in North Goa, was allegedly caught while arriving on a scooter to take the woman to prospective clients for prostitution, police said.
The Goa crime branch carried out a raid in the early hours of Wednesday near Palmirna Resort in Calangute, Bardez, following specific information about a prostitution racket, they said.
The woman was rescued during the operation, and the accused, who originally hailed from Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district in Telangana, was arrested, and a case was registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, the police added. The raids were conducted as part of the Crime Branch’s ongoing crackdown on human trafficking and prostitution rackets. The operation was conducted under the direct supervision of Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch) Jivba Dalvi.
