HYDERABAD: Several important issues, including appointment of Mutawallis and Waqf Board counsels, protection of Waqf properties, and renewal of committees have taken a major hit, as Telangana Waqf Board has not conducted its meeting for nearly 20 months.
According to Waqf Board sources, ambiguity surrounding the Waqf amendment act, 2025, parts of which are under judicial consideration and subject to interim court orders, is one of the reasons behind the board not holding its meeting.
The minority department had directed board chairman Syed Azmatullah Husseni to not convene board meetings until further orders a year ago. Given a large number of pending issues and grievances, permission has been sought from the government to convene the board meeting.
