Tamil CM, Thalapathy Vijay, is hogging the limelight for his professional front. It’s been over a month since Vijay took the oath of office as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. As Vijay took the responsibility as the CM of Tamil Nadu, his parents, SA Chandrasekhar and Shoba Chandrasekhar, felt proud of their son. In a recent interview, Vijay’s mom, Shoba, revealed an unheard facet of the actor-turned-politician involving his late sister, Vidhya.
Thalapathy Vijay’s mom opened up about her son’s humble beginnings
In a recent interview with Thanthi TV, Thalapathy Vijay’s mom opened up about her son’s humble beginnings. Shoba mentioned that before her husband left his government job to become a full-time filmmaker, it was income from singing that kept their household running. In this modest setting, Vijay grew up in a middle-class family. Shoba stated that after she lost her daughter, Vidhya, both she and her husband wanted their son to be a doctor. She was quoted as saying:
“It was my own income from singing that kept the household running before my husband eventually gave up a government job to pursue filmmaking full time. In our modest setting, Vijay grew up in a middle-class family.”

Thalapathy Vijay grew quieter after his sister’s death, reveals his mom, Shoba
In the same interview, Thalapathy Vijay’s mom, Shoba shared that tragedy struck hard on their family in 1984 when Vijay’s younger sister, Vidhya, tragically passed away at the age of two. At the time, SA Chandrasekhar was away filming. Shoba mentioned that Vijay had been a jolly and lively child until his sister, Vidhya’s death. After the tragic death of his sister, Vijay grew quieter, and his school teachers even noticed him getting emotional. She was quoted as saying:
“Until then, Vijay had been a jolly, lively child, but my daughter’s death changed him and the rest of the family as well. Vijay, once talkative and a little mischievous, grew noticeably quieter afterwards, and his school teachers had even noticed him getting emotional whenever the subject of sisters came up in class. He stays fairly reserved otherwise and is not someone who talks a great deal even with people he is close to.”

Thalapathy Vijay’s parents were the happiest as he won the 2026 TN Assembly Election
On May 4, 2026, Vijay made his parents proud by winning the Tamil Nadu Assembly Election. He contested his first election on April 23, 2026, as the leader of his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). After his massive win, Vijay went straight to his parents’ house in Chennai to seek his parents’ blessing. Regarding his win, Vijay’s father, SA Chandrasekhar, told ANI that Shoba is actually Vijay’s first fan, and thus it is pretty evident that she will be happy about her son’s success. Sharing his own feelings, SA Chandrasekhar said:
“I am motivated. As a human, you should not only be an artist, but also have some social thinking. For the last 30 years, he (Vijay) had something in his mind, that he had to do something for Tamil Nadu, and slowly he has developed. Today he is going to be the Chief Minister. I think it’s a historical success, a historical victory for Vijay. Tamil people loved him not only as a leader. Every lady treats him like his own son, and people treat him like their own brother. Sixty-year-olds consider him a grandson; he has developed that relationship with the public.”
