Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business

Chase’s premium business card offers multiple benefits, including useful statement credits and travel perks.

Welcome offer: Earn 200,000 bonus points after spending $30,000 on purchases in the first six months from account opening.

Why we love it: The Sapphire Reserve for Business combines premium travel perks with strong earning potential for business owners who spend heavily in some of its bonus categories.

For TPG founder Brian Kelly, the card’s earning potential on advertising purchases has been particularly valuable. “The Sapphire Reserve for Business has let me consolidate my spending and keep earning beyond those limits, which is a big deal for growing our TPG brand,” he said.

The card earns 3 points per dollar spent on social media and search engine advertising purchases (capped at $1 million in spending each anniversary year beginning Nov. 15), and Brian has also gotten significant value from its travel benefits. He has used The Edit to book luxury hotel stays with on-property perks such as daily breakfast for two and property credits, while also taking advantage of Chase’s Points Boost for select hotel and airfare redemptions.

American Express Platinum Card

The Amex Platinum is one of our favorite luxury travel cards thanks to its long list of useful benefits, including airport lounge access and valuable statement credits.

Welcome offer: Find out your offer and see if you’re eligible for as high as 175,000 bonus points after spending $12,000 on purchases in the first six months of card membership. (Welcome offers vary, and you may not be eligible for an offer.)

Why we love it: TPG credit cards editor Olivia Mittak finds solid value in the Amex Platinum’s benefits. Specifically, Olivia enjoys receiving the up to $155 Walmart+ statement credit per calendar year (up to $12.95 monthly, plus applicable taxes) that covers the cost of a monthly membership when paying with the Amex Platinum (on one membership, subject to auto-renewal; Plus Ups excluded).

Walmart+ includes a complimentary Paramount+ subscription (separate enrollment is required), which allows her to avoid paying out of pocket for the streaming service.

She also uses the card’s up to $300 Lululemon statement credit per calendar year at U.S. stores (excluding outlets) and online (allocated as up to $75 per quarter) and up to $400 Resy statement credit per calendar year (distributed as up to $100 per quarter; simply pay with your Amex Platinum at an eligible U.S. Resy restaurant; no reservation is required).

Enrollment is required.

Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card

The Capital One Venture Rewards is a straightforward travel rewards card that earns at least 2 miles per dollar on every purchase and gives cardholders access to Capital One’s airline and hotel transfer partners.

Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card

Welcome offer: Earn 75,000 bonus miles after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening. Plus, receive a $300 credit to use on hotel and vacation rentals booked through Capital One Travel in the first cardholder year upon account opening.

Why we love it: The Venture Rewards offers a simple earning structure and flexible redemption options for a reasonable $95 annual fee.

Cardholders earn at least 2 miles per dollar spent on purchases, so there’s no need to keep track of bonus categories. For potentially greater value, you can transfer your miles to Capital One’s airline and hotel partners.

TPG points and loyalty lead writer Katie Genter has held the Venture Rewards for years and values it for many of the same reasons. “I like the Venture’s straightforward earning structure, and the fact that it earns versatile yet valuable Capital One miles,” she said.

The current offer is particularly appealing because the $300 Capital One Travel credit comes on top of the 75,000-mile bonus, making an already strong offer even more rewarding in the first year.

United Explorer

The United Explorer is a solid option for travelers who fly United several times a year and want valuable airline perks without paying a premium annual fee.

Welcome offer: Earn up to 80,000 bonus miles: Earn 70,000 bonus miles after spending $3,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening. Plus, earn 10,000 bonus miles after adding an authorized user in the first three months from account opening.

Why we love it: The Explorer offers several useful United benefits, including a free first checked bag for the cardmember and one companion (when the flight is purchased with the card), priority boarding and two United Club one-time passes each cardholder year.

TPG credit cards editor Olivia Mittak has held the Explorer for years and particularly appreciates how easy it is to get value from the card’s United-specific benefits.

“The biggest reason I tout the Explorer as often as I do is because of how easy it is to get meaningful value from it without needing to use merchant credits that may not fit your spending habits,” she said.

With a $0 introductory annual fee for the first year (then $150), the Explorer could be particularly appealing to travelers who regularly check bags or use United Club access.

Hilton Honors Aspire

The Hilton Honors Aspire is a premium hotel card that offers valuable benefits for travelers who regularly stay at Hilton properties.

American Express Hilton Honors Aspire

Welcome offer: Earn 200,000 bonus points after spending $6,000 on purchases in the first six months of card membership.

Why we love it: The Aspire offers automatic Hilton Honors Diamond status, an annual free night reward and up to $400 in statement credits for eligible Hilton resort purchases each calendar year (up to $200 biannually).

For Carly Helfand, TPG’s director of site strategy, the free night reward and resort credits are among her favorite credit card benefits. Both she and her husband hold the Aspire, allowing them to take advantage of two sets of these benefits each year.

The card’s perks can help offset the card’s $550 annual fee, particularly for travelers who can redeem their free night rewards at high-end Hilton properties.

United Gateway

The United Gateway is an entry-level United credit card that lets travelers earn MileagePlus miles without paying an annual fee.

Welcome offer: Earn up to 50,000 bonus miles: Earn 40,000 bonus miles after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening. Plus, earn 10,000 bonus miles after adding an authorized user in the first three months from account opening.

Why we love it: The Gateway offers a straightforward way to earn United miles on everyday purchases while avoiding an annual fee. It’s a strong option for occasional United flyers who want to build their MileagePlus balances but don’t need the more extensive travel benefits of the airline’s higher-tier cards.

TPG credit card writer Becky Pokora appreciates the card’s everyday earning opportunities: “I keep my card linked to my toll road and Parkmobile accounts, since it earns extra miles on local transit and commuting charges and defines those categories broadly,” she said.

Becky also uses the card for inflight purchases to receive a 25% statement credit on eligible purchases, another perk that adds value without an annual fee.
