MULUGU: The state government has launched the ‘Tholi Mudda’ programme with the objective of providing children with nutritious food during their early years and ensuring a healthy future, panchayat raj, rural development and women and child welfare minister Dhanasari Anasuya Seethakka said. She inaugurated the programme at the Mulugu collectorate on Monday.
She said the programme aimed to provide nutrition essential for the physical, mental and emotional development of children aged between three and six years. The initiative is being implemented in six selected districts, including Mulugu. From October 1, all Anganwadi centres will serve a nutritious breakfast along with an egg, with upma on one day and khichdi on another, she added.
Seethakka said children in Mulugu district were already being provided 100 ml of milk and would now receive a complete nutritional diet comprising milk, eggs, breakfast and lunch. Children suffering from malnutrition were being provided Balamrutham and Balamrutham Plus, she said.
She directed officials to provide pre-primary education through play and activities along with nutritious food at Anganwadi centres. Steps should be taken to ensure at least 20 children at each centre, she said.
The minister directed officials to identify centres without their own buildings and prepare proposals for constructing buildings under the employment guarantee scheme. She also said basic facilities, including drinking water, cupboards and tables, would be provided at the centres.
