Thomas Tuchel bemoans Cole Palmer availability by not selecting Cole Palmer when available

The latest England squad was announced this morning, and once again it only contains one Chelsea player, Morgan Rogers, with Tuchel-favorite Reece James injured and Tuchel-unfavorite Cole Palmer left at home.

The Palmer thing is starting to approach extra silly levels now, with the former Chelsea head coach explaining that he didn’t pick the Chelsea starboy due to his previous unavailability.

I bet Tuchel wouldn’t hesitate to pick Reecey in the same situation — in fact, we kind of know he wouldn’t — so perhaps he just needs to come out and say that he doesn’t rate Palmer, rather than continuing to insinuate that Palmer isn’t committed enough to the national team, or some other such nonsense.

“We have enough number 10s and we stick to the guys who were in the previous camp because we were happy with the two and a half weeks we had together. We have Josh King as a new player in there, but I want to see him on both wings. He is kind of an extra player and he can play all four positions.

“I guess everyone is desperate to play for England and Cole is no exception. We are speaking now about a player that is not in camp. It counts when you are in camp and I just said last time that he misses too many opportunities to impress.”

Well, he certainly ain’t gonna impress if you don’t pick him! Might as well be a meme at this point.

On the plus side, Palmer now gets to kick his feet up for a couple weeks, play some video games, and be fully rested as we head into the fixture crunch of winter and the holiday period.
