VISAKHAPATNAM: Thousands of Adivasis from tribal villages across Alluri Sitarama Raju and Polavaram districts participated in a massive rally at Paderu on Friday, demanding the restoration of GO No. 3 and strict implementation of the Andhra Pradesh Scheduled Areas Land Transfer Regulation (1/70).

The gathering, held at the Junior College Grounds, was organised jointly by the Adivasi Girijana Sangham and more than 100 social media influencers and content creators to highlight issues affecting tribal communities.

The participants later took out a rally to the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) office in Paderu.

Addressing the gathering, Adivasi Girijana Sangham Central Secretariat member P. Appala Narasa, Araku MP Tanooja Rani, Paderu MLA Matsya Arasa Visweswara Raju, Bairi Ramesh and other leaders demanded the reinstatement of GO No. 3, which provided 100 per cent reservation in teaching posts for local tribal candidates in Scheduled Areas.

They also sought strict enforcement of the 1/70 Act, which safeguards tribal land by restricting its transfer to non-tribals.

The organisers alleged that several participants travelling from nearby areas were denied bus tickets and were stopped en route to the rally.

Despite the alleged restrictions and rain, more than 15,000 people attended the rally, according to the organisers, who warned of intensified protests if their demands were not met.
