Bhadradri Kothagudem: The movement of a tiger in Aswaraopet mandal of Bhadradri Kothagudem district has triggered fresh panic among residents.
Locals reported spotting the tiger near Gogulapudi and Kavadigundla villages on Saturday night. The big cat attempted to attack a cow grazing near the fields, but retreated into the forest due to the cattle’s movement and the villagers’ alertness. After the incident, villagers alerted the Forest Department. On Sunday, officials cautioned locals against venturing into forest areas and advised them not to let cattle graze there.
Forest staff are combing the region for pugmarks to confirm the tiger’s presence. Special teams have been deployed to track its movement.
The Sri Gubbala Mangamma Thalli Temple, located near the Andhra Pradesh–Telangana border, is close to where the tiger was seen. With devotees expected during the season, forest officials have asked people to inform authorities before visiting the temple or to avoid the area if possible.
In February, the tiger was spotted in the same Gogulapudi and Kavadigundla areas, where it attacked and killed livestock. At that time, forest officials fitted it with a radio collar before releasing it back into the forest.
Authorities have urged villagers to remain cautious, especially during evening and night hours, and to avoid entering forest areas alone. They have also been advised to protect livestock and report any sightings immediately.
Public announcements are also being made to ensure safety. Meanwhile, forest officials are working to determine whether the tiger is still in the vicinity or has moved deep into the forest. With fresh pugmarks found in the villages, residents remain on high alert as the Forest Department continues to monitor the situation closely.
