TikTok star Jenna Anne Johnson has died at the age of 23, her family has announced, after coming to fame in 2024 after sharing her diagnosis with stage 4 cervical cancer
TikTok star Jenna Anne Johnson has died from cervical cancer at the age of 23, as her elder sister Paige took to social media to share the devastating news with her fans.
Jenna came to fame on TikTok after sharing and documenting her diagnosis with cervical cancer and subsequent treatment and day-to-day life. She built up a huge platform with over 50k followers, all of whom were devastated to hear about her death.
In a post from her sister, it was announced that Jenna, who was from Stockholm, South Dakota, died on May 29 after spending five days in hospice care.
“This is not a video that anyone should ever have to make, but it was her one request that if anything did happen I would update you guys. Because I know a lot of you guys have personally reached out to her and a lot of prayers were sent to Jenna.” said Paige in a TikTok video shared in June.
“So truly went through more than anybody should have to go to, and she did it all so courageously.” she said as she announced that her sister spent her final days in hospice care.
“We are all very much grieving and miss her already,” she said of her family. “We fully believe that we are gonna meet her someday. In hospice, some of her last words to my parents were saying, ‘It’s beautiful’.”
She concluded by thanking fans for being her “support” and for all the “love” that they gave her.
NeedToKnow reported that Jenna was diagnosed with cervical cancer in June 2024 after attending what she thought would be a normal, routine smear test.
A smear test revealed she had adenoid carcinoma, a rare cancer affecting glandular tissue, and doctors initially believed that it was at stage three and there was a chance she could survive. However, further testing revealed that the cancer had spread to her cervix, uterus, and lymph nodes and was at stage four.
She did not contract cancer through previously having HPV, which causes the majority of cervical cancer cases. Because of this, and her age, she said doctors were “absolutely baffled” by her unusual case.
Her video titled “How I found out I had Stage 4 cancer” was one of her most successful videos and watched more than 3.4 million times.
Jenna, who was born in 2003, reflected on her diagnosis in one of her videos: “‘Honestly, cancer was my biggest scare, too, and now that I have it, it just really is teaching me to live life to your fullest.
“You don’t know what’s gonna happen. You just need to live your life.”
