New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, on a three-day visit to Delhi, called on President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday. The President’s office shared a picture of the meeting in a post on X.
“Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Shri C. Joseph Vijay called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan,” it said. The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay is set to attend the NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting.
The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, brings together chief ministers and administrators from across the country to discuss developmental agendas and cooperative federalism, sources said.
Before departing, Vijay paid his last respects to veteran director Bharathiraja at his residence. He then took a chartered flight from Chennai at about 10 am.
This marks Vijay’s second official visit to the national capital since assuming office.
During his maiden visit on May 27, he held high-profile meetings with Prime Minister Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
After arriving in Delhi, the chief minister checked in at Tamil Nadu House. He is expected to address the council, outlining the state’s key economic and welfare priorities, sources added.
Though there was no official confirmation of his exact itinerary, sources said Vijay is likely to meet President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President C P Radhakrishnan.
Beyond official engagements, Vijay is likely to hold a separate meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and make courtesy calls on senior Congress leaders.
He is expected to return to Chennai on Friday evening.
Vijay to meet Rahul, Sonia
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay is scheduled to meet Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi and former AICC chief Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday evening, sources said. This is his second visit to New Delhi after taking up the reins as the chief minister of the southern state in May.
Vijay will meet the Gandhis at 6:30 pm at the 10, Janpath residence of the CPP chief. This will be his first meeting with Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi after assuming the post of the chief minister.
Two Congress lawmakers were recently inducted into the Vijay-led council of ministers, making the grand old party a part of the government in the southern state for the first time in 59 years. The Congress lost power in Tamil Nadu in 1967.
While in Delhi, Vijay is also expected to meet President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C P Radhakrishnan and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
