Tommy Fury has revealed he is being bombarded with racist messages every day as he made the decision to finally call it out.
The boxer, whose half-brother Tyson revealed that he is frequently subjected to abuse in the UK due to his traveller heritage, snapped after the latest sick message was posted on his Instagram account.
He reposed the grim slur on his Story, drawing attention to the fact he has to deal with abuse “on the daily” and questioned why sportsmen in particular are subjected to such racism. Tommy says he has had enough, and decided to share the post saying he is strong-minded enough to deal with it – but warned others may not be.
The 27-year-old, who said sorry for the language used but refused to edit the post, wrote: “Some of the stuff people write in my comments is honestly vile.
“The forced hate is mad! I’ll never understand what makes someone wants to write something like that on someone else’s post, it’s never made sense to me. I notice is so much more with sportsmen receiving hate from other men.
“It’s a good job I’m strong minded, and it’s never bothered me but not everyone is the same and a meaningless comment to you might actually have a massive effect on someone.
“Sorry for the graphic message but I read this stuff on the daily!”
Tyson understands his struggle. The former world champion previously appeared on This Morning to talk the nation through his experiences, drawing attention to the matter after some difficult experiences.
“I’m a white male, but I suffer racism, as a white person, because I’m a traveller and I come from an ethnic background,” he said.
“Even today, you go into pubs, bars and restaurants and it may say on the door ‘we reserve the right not to let travellers in. No travellers allowed, gypsies or travellers.’ It’s not just black people who suffer racism.
“I think travellers are the most acceptable form of racism, in Britain and in the world at the moment. It’s still acceptable to be racist towards travellers – nothing ever gets done about it, no one ever says anything it, it’s just accepted. That’s it, it is what it is.”
“It’s terrible because you can’t judge everybody with the same brush,” he told the hosts. “To have such things go on in my life, and everything that I’ve been through, to see that on boards or whatever…
“It said ‘no gypsies allowed’, I said ‘what you talking about?’ and they said ‘no gypsies allowed.’
“I said ‘I’m a world heavyweight champion boxer representing this country, I’m not just some gypsy’, and she said ‘yeah but you are a traveller, no travellers allowed.’”
