Two Women Burnt to Death in Eluru Fire Mishap

Kakinada:Two women were burnt to death after a fire engulfed a makeshift shed at Velerupadu village in Eluru district in the early hours of Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Velagani Savitri, 60 and Siga Pulamma, 65. According to sources, Savitri had been living in a bamboo-walled shed at Velerupadu and earned her livelihood by selling toddy. Pulamma, her sister from Karalapadu village in Suryapet district of Telangana, had been staying with her for the past month.

Villagers noticed flames engulfing the shed in the early hours and alerted the fire department and police. However, both women were trapped inside and died in the blaze. The fire also completely gutted an adjacent house.

Kukunoor circle inspector M. Ramesh Babu said clues teams from Eluru and forensic experts from Vijayawada visited the scene and collected samples, including electrical wires and ash, for examination. He said the exact cause of the fire and the deaths would be determined after receiving forensic laboratory reports.

Meanwhile, Eluru Lok Sabha member Putta Mahesh Kumar and Polavaram MLA Ch. Balaraju expressed shock over the incident. The MP described the tragedy as unfortunate and urged officials to provide immediate assistance to the affected families. Noting that some villagers had expressed suspicion over the circumstances surrounding the fire, he called for a detailed investigation into the incident.
