VIJAYAWADA: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra on Thursday said urban development and public welfare remained the civic body’s primary priorities.
He was speaking at a coordination meeting with public representatives and officials at the Command Control Room in the VMC headquarters. Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath, East constituency MLA Gadde Rammohan, representatives of Central and West constituencies, and heads of various municipal departments attended the meeting.
Reviewing civic works, the commissioner said the corporation had introduced a four-bin garbage segregation system under the Solid Waste Management Rules-2026 in place of the earlier three-bin model. He also reviewed arrangements for 106 summer water kiosks, implementation of the Summer Action Plan, monsoon desilting works and progress of AMRUT 1.0 projects.
Dhyanachandra explained the provisions of GO Ms No. 92 relating to VMC properties and said rents would now increase by seven per cent annually instead of a 33 per cent hike once every three years. Differential rents for ground, first and second floors have also been introduced.
Sivanath suggested renovation of VMC function halls to improve civic revenues and proposed setting up food stalls in parks and food courts near the BRTS road-end close to the railway station and the Polytechnic College service road green space. He also stressed the need to complete drainage works before laying roads and prevent water stagnation during the monsoon.
Rammohan sought protective fencing in vulnerable hill areas and proposed a separate canal to divert rainwater from hill slopes into major drains. He also called for completion of the River Front Park and staircase access from Krishnalanka-side lanes.
Representatives from Central and West constituencies raised issues relating to parks, Errakatta ROB, Panja Centre FOB, walking tracks and underground drainage works.
Officials informed the meeting that development works worth Rs 1 crore had already been sanctioned for the Iconic Park project.
