The former Geordie star revealed her husband Ercan Ramadan had been excited to learn she was reading the fantasy books but it didn’t have the desired effect
Vicky Pattison has revealed she is hooked on “fairy porn”— the bestselling fantasy romance books that have become a cultural phenomenon among Gen Z readers and celebrity fans including Margot Robbie.
The 38-year-old TV favourite admitted she can’t get enough of author Sarah J. Maas’s hugely successful fantasy series, A Court of Thorns and Roses, which has sold millions of copies worldwide and helped fuel the rise of the so-called ‘romantasy’ genre.
“I have been working all day and the thing that was keeping us going was my snacks and my fairy porn.” The former Geordie Shore star joked.
She added: “I do think fairy porn is a whole genre in itself. What hooks you is not the writing or the literary style; it speaks to something animalistic in a woman.”
Pattison revealed how her husband Ercan Ramadan was initially delighted when he discovered she was reading the books after a friend told him they could spice up a marriage.
“Ercan thought, ‘She’s going to get all fired up reading about these fairies’. But he’s not reaping the benefits because I just want to s*** the fairies,” she told presenter Angela Scanlon, 42, on their Get a Grip podcast.
A Court of Thorns and Roses follows huntress Feyre Archeron after she kills a wolf that turns out to be fae. As punishment she is taken to a magical kingdom where she becomes entangled with the mysterious High Fae Lord Tamlin.
The series is famous for blending fantasy adventure, romance and increasingly steamy relationships, helping turn author Sarah J. Maas into one of the world’s bestselling writers.
Pattison believes the books tap into deep-rooted female fantasies. She said, “I found out through these books that I want a man to go to war for me, even though I didn’t have myself pegged as that type of girl.”
The romantasy boom has been driven largely by TikTok’s BookTok community, where readers share emotional reactions, favourite scenes and recommendations. Alongside A Court of Thorns and Roses, smash-hit titles including Fourth Wing and From Blood and Ash have attracted millions of readers worldwide.
The genre has become such a publishing force that major bookshops now dedicate entire sections to romantasy novels, while reports last year suggested Margot Robbie’s production company had explored adapting A Court of Thorns and Roses for the screen.
