Villarreal vs PSG Champions League preview
After spurning a 2-0 lead to lose 4-3 at Liverpool on Matchday 3, Villarreal head coach Inigo Perez says a home game against Paris Saint-Germain is the perfect chance to “reaffirm this belief that we have been developing.”
The Yellow Submarine lost 3-2 at Dortmund on Matchday 1 but produced an impressive result in their first home game in this season’s Champions League, coming from behind to beat Napoli 3-1.
“Against this type of team is when you have to abandon fear,” said Perez. “You have to abandon complexes and reaffirm yourself.
“[You must] try to show that you also have the level because, if they smell fear, they won’t forgive you. The game is important enough because of the hierarchy of the opponents.”
The holders are on a nine-match winning run in all competitions, conceding the opener but winning 5-1 at Ligue 1 bottom club Le Havre on Friday.
Luis Enrique’s side thrashed Slovan Bratislava 6-1 at Camp Nou on Matchday 1, following by 4-2 wins away to Manchester City and at home to Barcelona.
“Villarreal are a great side,” said defender Willian Pacho. “I’ve watched a few of their matches and they deserved better than the results they got against Dortmund – which was a tough match – or against Liverpool.
“They like to have the ball and know how to keep possession. We’ll have to control the ball to be able to dictate the pace of the game, but we know this team can really hurt us.”

Prediction for Villarreal v Paris Saint Germain
Villarreal
1 – 2
Paris Saint Germain
Ninth in La Liga, Villarreal have won three of their 11 league games this season and one of their five at home, losing three times in the top flight at the Estadio de la Ceramica. Their Champions League displays suggest they will test PSG, but the visitors’ form is also difficult to overlook.
