Wembley Stadium has introduced some new rules as Harry Styles prepares to return to the stage this week, as the UK battles a rare red heat warning across the south
Wembley Stadium has shared new rules for Harry Styles’ concerts amid the UK heatwave. Currently, parts of the UK are battling a “heat dome” settling across western Europe, with temperatures set to spike to 40°C.
A red weather warning for extreme heat covering areas from London to Swansea was issued by the Met Office from 9am on Wednesday to 9pm on Thursday. Currently, temperatures in London are expected to hit 33°C later today, when Harry is due on stage.
In light of the extreme weather, Harry’s shows at Wembley, which will see Shania Twain open for him, will go ahead as planned, but the stadium’s bosses have relaxed the water bottle policy.
Metal bottles are not typically permitted inside Wembley, but guests will now be allowed to take hard plastic or metal bottles inside with them later today. Refill stations will be available for free. Elsewhere, empty soft plastic bottles up to 500 ml are also permitted inside.
While water is available to purchase at all bars across Wembley, the price will be reduced by 50 per cent. Fans in attendance will also have access to free sun protection from information points inside the stadium.
The stadium has also issued further guidance, advising fans to stay hydrated, take regular breaks in the shade, and dress accordingly – including loose-fitting, breathable clothing and a head covering.
They have also advised that concert-goers do not arrive early so they avoid waiting outside in the sun. “Avoid consuming too much alcohol. Stay hydrated with water,” their guidance added.
A spokesperson for Wembley said: “Our traditional policies around water bottles have been relaxed for the past few events as temperatures have risen, and we would encourage guests to bring bottles as per above and refill them inside the stadium.”
Safety information will also be displayed throughout the stadium, and bosses have also advised people attending to travel lightly due to bag restrictions. People are only allowed to take a bag no bigger than an A4 piece of paper into the stadium.
Currently, timings for the rest of Harry’s shows this week are – doors open at 14:30 for the Together Together Package. 16:15 for every other Early Entry Package, while general admission and hospitality open at 17:00, with the show due to start at 18:55.
Met Office spokesman Grahame Madge said: “The Met Office is flagging 39C as a headline maximum temperature on Thursday, most likely for somewhere in London or the South East.
“Forecast temperature values are indicative and are subject to a slight range either side. It is possible we could see temperatures higher than the 39C if the final values are at the upper end of our narrow range.
“It is important to remember that the temperature value is only one element of this extreme heatwave story. The other major factor is the high humidity, which for many will make the intense heat even harder to endure.”
