A woman died after reportedly being attacked by a wild animal near Shettivaripalle village in Mydukur assembly constituency of YSR Kadapa district on Friday. It is suspected she may have been by a wild boar or bear.

The deceased has been identified as N. Balasubbamma. She had gone to the field in the early hours to collect grass when the attack took place. She sustained severe injuries, particularly on her face, and died on the spot.

Balasubbamma’s grandson Sandeep, who had been in the vicinity, noticed her lying on the ground and raised an alarm. Locals rushed to the spot and found her dead. They found her face severely disfigured. The injuries appeared to have been caused by the claws or teeth of a wild animal.

Forest officials reached the spot soon after the incident and examined the area. Balasubbamma’s body has been shifted to the Proddatur Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Based on a complaint lodged by Balasubbamma’s son Venkateswara Reddy, Mydukur Urban police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Forest officials are also examining the body to determine which animal could be responsible for the death.

The incident has led to fears in nearby villages, particularly those among those who go to their agricultural fields alone.

Officials suspect some wild animals may have entered the human habitations in search of drinking water amid water scarcity in the forest areas.
