In a pre‑planned killing, a woman and her son who murdered her paramour, wrapped his body and were preparing to dump it in an isolated spot in Jeedimetla, were arrested by police in the early hours of Monday.
The accused, Garnapally Aruna and her son Garnapally Sai Ratnam attacked M Shiva Reddy at about 1.40 am at their house in Ambedkarnagar, Chintal. Police said Reddy, who arrived drunk, was confronted by Aruna and Sai Ratnam, who had procured a butcher’s knife. Following an argument, Sai attacked Reddy while Aruna held the victim down.
Reddy died on the spot. The duo then wrapped the body in a bedsheet and plastic sheet while Aruna cleaned bloodstains from the walls and floor.
Sai summoned a friend, who panicked on seeing the body and alerted police. “We rushed to the scene along with CLUES teams, arrested Aruna and Sai Ratnam red‑handed, and recovered the weapon, blood‑stained clothes and the polythene cover as they were about to dispose of the body,” G Mallesh, SHO Jeedimetla, said.
Reddy, a mason, had lived in Ambedkarnagar for a decade after moving from Annamayya district, Andhra Pradesh. He had developed a relationship with Aruna after her husband left her. Police said Aruna and Sai confessed they were enraged by Reddy’s daily drunken assaults and had decided days earlier to kill him.
The accused resisted arrest, claiming the polythene bag contained household articles. Officers opened it to find Reddy’s body. Both were remanded to judicial custody.
Reddy’s body was sent to Gandhi Hospital for post‑mortem. His family in Andhra Pradesh has been informed and is travelling to claim the remains. Panic spread in Chintal as news of the murder broke among locals.
77 firefighters battle Musheerabad blaze
A massive fire broke out late Sunday night at a godown storing multiple used materials in Bholakpur, Musheerabad, triggering a seven‑hour operation by 77 firefighters and nine fire tenders.
District fire officer Thagaram Venkanna said the call was received around 11 pm. “I alerted the fire command control and rushed from Chikkadpally. Despite narrow lanes, tenders managed to reach and extinguish the fire by 6 am. Otherwise the scene would have been critical,” he told Deccan Chronicle.
Teams surrounded the building from all four sides, climbed adjacent terraces and used smoke exhausters and water jets to contain the blaze. “The fire was so huge due to multiple inflammable materials that it could not be categorised. Foam and CO₂ failed, so we made a spot decision to use water. Without that, it would have taken six to seven days,” Venkanna said.
Regional fire officer B Sudhakar praised the operation: “Our firefighters, led by Venkanna, risked their lives, evacuated families and extinguished the fire within seven hours. Any delay would have taken a minimum of seven days.”
Two MPTs, one WT, a snorkel and three water bowsers were deployed from Secunderabad, Gowliguda, Musheerabad, Moulali and Gandhi OP. Locals obstructed officials by holding fire guns, but teams cleared the situation. Police registered a case of fire accident and negligence; no injuries were reported.
Residents alleged scrap dealers in the locality store combustible materials illegally, blocking half the roads. “None of the godowns have permission. Some dealers dismantle and sell stolen property. Even if we question them, they threaten us,” said M Parvati, who lives adjacent to the godown.
