Wynne Evans has spoken out what he claims “really happened” with Katya Jones following the Strictly Come Dancing scandal. It comes after he took part in the dancing show in 2024
Wynne Evans has hit out at his former Strictly Come Dancing co-stars after a turbulent period following his time on the show. Wynne, 54, featured as a contestant on the dancing show back in 2024; however, he faced a series of scandals whilst taking part in Strictly Come Dancing and its subsequent live tour.
Recently, he took to TikTok to answer some questions from viewers about his time on the show. In the footage, he appeared to take a swipe at certain cast members before praising the actions of one member of the Strictly family in particular, and he didn’t hold back when it came to sharing his thoughts.
It’s not the first time he’s shared such a candid video either. Previously, he admitted he “messed up again” after releasing another update.
In recent footage, he talked about if he was still in contact with his former Strictly dancing partner, Katya Jones, or former EastEnders star, Jamie Borthwick. Wynne said: “I’ll answer these in one.
“Short answer – no. Longer answer – of course they all reached out to me when I left. Privately, they all gave me their support.
“But, when I asked them to do it publicly, they said they’d have to check with their publicists. I kind of understood that.
“Even though, I’m a guy who if I’m your friend, I’m your friend through thick and thin. That really surprised me actually about the whole celebrity community.
“I thought they were my friends but, actually, it was c***. All my friends from opera – no problem at all. I hear from them all the time.
“So, yeah, no I don’t hear from them. Anton is the exception to the rule. I’ve heard from Anton, and he’s a top bloke.
“He invited me to his show. I saw Lauren, she was in his show, and she came around my house the next day for lunch but Anton – he was really nice.
“He’s a top, top bloke. Of all the people there, I would say he’s the most real. I think he’s just a good, solid bloke.”
Previously, it was announced that Wynne would not be returning to his BBC Radio Wales show, which he had hosted since 2016, following the scandal. A spokesperson for the BBC said at the time that there were also “no plans” to work with him again.
Wynne competed on Strictly in 2024 alongside Katya; however, they ended up apologising during the series for what he described as them “messing around”. One controversial incident included a scene of him with his hand on Katya’s waist.
It was later reported, whilst on the tour, that he had apologised for using “inappropriate and unacceptable” language amid reports that he used the term “spit roast” to Janette Manrara at a photocall. Wynne has since insisted that it was instead part of a nickname for their co-star Jamie Borthwick and “wasn’t meant sexually”.
Wynne subsequently left the tour and his radio show after the scandal broke. As reported at the time, he said in a statement then: “I’ve agreed with the BBC that I’ll take some time out from my radio show and the Strictly Live tour, as well as my other public commitments, to prioritise my wellbeing.
“I am deeply sorry for the pain my inappropriate actions have caused, and plan to take this time for self-reflection. Apologies to those I won’t get to see at the remaining performances and I’m grateful to my fellow tour gang for all the amazing support they have given me.”
It was later announced that he wouldn’t be returning to his BBC Radio show following his departure months prior. He said in a statement: “From the very depths of my heart – thank you. These past few months, your love has been the light in my darkest days. Every message, every word of encouragement, every moment you stood by me has carried me through more than you could ever know.”
