On September 28, 2026, a BTS video was released that included discussions by the director, producer and key cast members about the depiction of Lord Rama and his casting in the movie. Nitesh Tiwari, director of Ramayana, himself felt the overwhelming pressure during the pursuit of finding the perfect fit. He said, “Casting Lord Rama was almost next to impossible. All we could do was try.”
But a shimmer of hope could distinctively be seen. Ranbir Kapoor turned out to be the perfect piece in this complex puzzle. He continued, “As for Ranbir, the way I had always imagined, Lord Rama would walk, sit, speak, and carry himself… Ranbir has all those qualities.”
The producer of Ramayana, Namit Malhotra, added extra weight to this statement, saying, “That sincerity on that face of Ranbir became… I think for Nitesh and I… There was not even a reason for debate.
Ranbir Kapoor’s co-star and the portrayer of Laxman, Ravi Dubey, sprinkled an extra layer of notion, providing further emphasis to their statements. He said, “I feel that the simplicity that we see in Lord Rama is what I can see in Ranbir’s eyes as well, many times.”
Ranbir Kapoor always understood the weight of this role, and it helped him stay grounded and sincere. His humility could be seen in the way he paid homage to the veteran actor, Arun Govil, for playing Lord Rama in the 1987 TV series. He said, “Mr. Arun Govil. He is the iconic Lord Rama for all of us. His one line that really resonated with me was, ‘Forgiveness is righteousness, forgiveness is sacred sacrifice, forgiveness is the eternal wisdom of the Vedas.’”
Ranbir further spoke on his approach to taking up a role of such magnitude. “This isn’t merely an exciting role in a movie. This is a responsibility.” He said, “Every day I reminded myself that my job was not to be worthy of this role. My job was to be worthy of the faith that people placed in this story.”
Ranbir also elaborated on the vision behind a such a huge project. The team went all out, bringing international talents to help shine the true authenticity and resonate better with the viewers. “Another thing that I witnessed while filming this epic was how Namit got the best of the East and the best of the West to come together with a simple belief in the telling of the Ramayana.”
He further said, “Talents like Terry Notary, who’s worked on such great movies. I had the good fortune of training under him for body language, for movement. The process was so exciting. The expertise he was bringing to us… Because I saw it in Terry Notary’s intention that he believed in the Ramayana.” Ranbir continued, “We had the amazing legend, Guy Norris,” He continued. “Him being so interested in the emotionality of Lord Rama was such a pleasant surprise.”
