A serious crash that killed an infant and 34-year-old woman last month has spark renewed appeals for information.
Three cars collided on the Captain Cook Highway between Cairns and Port Douglas on Friday, May 22.
Officers determined a white Mitsubishi Triton utility struck a red Mazda MX-5, before hitting the car – a white MG3 hatchback – driven by the 34-year-old woman near the intersection of Reynolds Road.
Inside the MG3 was also an 23-month-old infant and a 22-year-old woman.
The 34-year-old Mossman woman and her infant passenger died at the scene.
The 22-year-old passenger suffered life-threatening injuries, and was taken by helicopter to Cairns Hospital.
Police said the utility driver – a 62-year-old man from Port Douglas – suffered less serious injuries and was also taken to Cairns Hospital.
The driver and passenger of the Mazda were not physically injured.
On Monday, three weeks since the crash, police released an appeal for more information, urging anyone who might have footage of the incident to come forward.
Officers said the investigation into the fatal crash was continuing.
