Marco Rose has confirmed Juanlu Sánchez and Alex Tóth will be absent for prolonged periods after suffering injuries.

Juanlu sustained an ankle injury while featuring for the under-21s, with the Cherries still evaluating the extent of the ligament damage.

Tóth has had surgery on a hamstring injury sustained in Bournemouth’s 3-0 win over AC Milan in October, with the Hungarian midfielder not expected back until after the new year. Ahead of his side’s clash against Sparta Prague, Rose confirmed the plans to replace the 21-year-old with Eli Junior Kroupi in their next European squad, after the Frenchman’s own return from injury.

“Juanlu twisted his ankle in the under-21s game,” Rose said. “It’s a ligament injury and we’re still assessing how to manage it and how long he will need.

“Alex has had his surgery and everything went well. We’re not going to see him before the new year. We’re going to miss him for several months. Kroupi will be in the next European squad. We have some decisions to make with Alex Tóth missing and potentially moving players around in line with the European rules.

“We communicated it very clear when we decided to do it like we do it now. We said Junior is injured more than 60 days and we said if Junior is back we are going to have Premier League games and cup games.

“We made the decision to change him after four games in the European so after the next game he will be available.”

Bournemouth sit fourth in the league phase of the Europa League after winning all three of their matches so far.
