King Kenny narrowly missed out on winning Celebrity Traitors after doubt was cast on him following James Acaster’s admission at the roundtable

King Kenny has taken aim at James Acaster as the fallout from Celebrity Traitors continues.

Viewers were shocked after 41-year-old comedian Acaster, who declared from the beginning that he was a “reluctant Traitor”, outed himself at the penultimate roundtable and dashed Maya Jama and King Kenny’s chances of winning the BBC show.

Acaster buckled under the pressure as he was grilled by actor Michael Sheen on Ross Kemp’s death, but while the comedian admitted to being a Traitor, he insisted that he hadn’t sprayed the perfume bottle.

Kenny came very close to winning the show, but he was banished at the last hurdle after his co-stars struggled to trust him as he had briefly been in the room that Kemp had been killed in.

Speaking on The Fellas podcast, he was asked what he would change about Traitors if he could.

“I think the producers should make sure that everyone wants to play the game effectively,” he said in a pointed barb. “Whether you’re a Traitor or a Faithful, everyone’s happy to do whatever. It makes the game much more fun.”

Addressing Acaster’s confession, he said he “couldn’t believe it” in that moment.

“I was shocked,” he said. “Ultimately, in that moment when he spoke about him not spraying the perfume and bringing up that the murder happened in plain sight in that room, I said to Maya ‘Time’s coming but we’re going to have to fight for our life and try and win this.'”

The host pointed out that he confirmed the theory that Maya had spent so long trying to debunk, so she was written off.

“I kind of had an argument to try and stay as long as I can because I was out of that room when the murder happened,” Kenny explained. “So that was the only hope I had to try and win this.”

He added: “I think if James Acaster didn’t say that I would have won.”

It comes after James Blunt revealed that viewers “didn’t see the full extent” of Acaster’s interrogation before he confessed that he was a Traitor to the group.

There has been much speculation over the editing of the show after it was reported that filming was stopped after Acaster became “distressed”, with viewers pointing out that scenes had been clearly edited due to continuity errors.

Speaking on Celebrity Traitors winner Alan Carr’s podcast, Life’s A Beach, Acaster revealed that he had been accused of being a Traitor by Jerry Hall, but couldn’t deny it.

He said: “I looked her in the eye and said, ‘I think it might be me too, Jerry,’ and she said, ‘You’re very sneaky.’ And I told her I was very sneaky and it might be me.

“I was like, well, surely that’s going in the edit.”

Yet the moment wasn’t included in the show. Acaster also spoke about how a lot of what he said during the roundtable grilling was edited out of the episode.

“I said a lot more around that roundtable than the edit would suggest,” he said. “Most of the time, they want to keep how the Traitors vote as a surprise.

“They don’t want to be like there’s hints that I might go one way or the other. So a lot of the time what I said at the roundtable is cut out.”

Last week, the BBC insisted that the welfare of contestants on Celebrity Traitors was the “highest priority” after filming had to be paused.

A BBC spokesperson said: “Our highest priority is always the safety and welfare of everyone taking part. Players are closely monitored and supported throughout by production which includes a dedicated and experienced welfare team.”
